Working Together

Jurisdiction: Australia

How can open government data to improve responsers' situational understanding and ability to plan their response, and share their information between agencies? How can sharing information between agencies be improved by different information presentation, allowing more informed decisions during domestic emergencies or national security events?

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) are often dispatched to assist Other Government Agencies (OGAs) in response to emergency events and to support events of national security.
Examples include supporting emergency responders during the Black Saturday bushfire crisis in Victoria in 2009, Queensland flood assistance in 2010/11 and 2016 and the search for MH370 in 2014.
The ADF also support local and federal law enforcement agencies to provide security during events such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in Sydney in 2007, the G20 Leaders Summit in Brisbane in 2014 and more recently the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast in 2018.
During these events, OGAs, law enforcement and Defence work together to ensure security, safety and relief to Australians.

The Challenge

How can we use open government data to provider responders with better situational understanding?

How could we equip them with an improved ability to plan a response and share information between agencies?

What sort of information presentation can allow more effective information sharing between agencies, and drive a more informed decision making process during a domestic emergency or national security events?

Entry: Challenge entry is avilable to all teams in Australia.
